10,000 expected to take part in 2nd Johor-Singapore Link Bridge Run

SINGAPORE : More than 10,000 people are expected to take part in this year's Johor-Singapore International 2nd Link Bridge Run.

The event will start in Johor Bharu at 6am on Sunday, October 2.

In addition to the 21km half marathon and 10km run, a new feature is a 5km leisure run.

Organisers say the objective is to foster closer bilateral relations between the people of Singapore and Malaysia, and to promote sports as well as tourism for both countries.

Launched in 2000, the annual 2nd Link Bridge Run has attracted more than 6,000 participants each year.

The top 10 runners for each event in the competitive category (namely the Men's Open, Women's Open, Men's Junior Veteran, Men's Senior Veteran, Women's Veteran, Boys and Girls) will stand to win cash prizes, worth more than S$14,000.

The top 50 runners in the competitive categories will also get individual medals.

All participants will receive certificates of participation and goodie bags.

Participants can register at the Singapore Sports Council's Sports and Recreational Centres in Jurong East, Tampines and Yio Chu Kang and at the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (Singapore office) in Robinson Road.

The closing date for registration is September 26.

The Singapore Sports Council says there will be free shuttle services from Tuas Bus Terminal to take participants to the Starting Point in Johor.

The service will start from 3am and the last bus will leave at 5am.

Those driving can park along Rest & Service Area (North bound) after the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza (TP1) and then proceed to the Start Point via the Rest & Service Area (South bound).
